Naftogaz Group will receive financing from Norway for the purchase of natural gas. The funds will come through the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). This was reported by the press service of Naftogaz.
How much money will Norway allocate for gas purchases?
It is currently unknown how much money will be allocated to natural gas purchases. The funding is part of a larger aid package aimed at supporting Ukraine's energy security. In total, Norway is allocating about €380 million for gas purchases, restoration of power grids, emergency generators, and nuclear safety.
“This assistance is very important for the stability of the energy system. I thank Norway and the EBRD for their consistent support and assistance to the country,” said Roman Chumak, CEO of Naftogaz Group.
“Apart from arms and ammunition, Ukraine needs support in the energy sector the most. People in Kyiv are often left without electricity. Therefore, energy support, including financing gas purchases, is an important element of Norway's assistance,” said Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
Since the beginning of 2024, Russia has carried out 16 massive attacks on Ukraine's gas infrastructure. In total, the enemy has fired more than 100 missiles at Naftogaz Group facilities.
