Roman Chumak, CEO of Naftogaz Group, met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine Masashi Nakagome. During the meeting, they discussed Ukraine's energy sustainability in times of war and Naftogaz's needs to restore damaged infrastructure, the company's press service reports.
Roman Chumak emphasized the importance of cooperation with Japan and thanked for the systematic support and assistance it has provided to Ukraine since the first days of the full-scale invasion.
"We greatly appreciate Japan's assistance aimed at strengthening the energy stability of our country during the war. We have already received special vehicles, equipment, and materials to ensure the operation and passive protection of Naftogaz Group facilities. We continue to work together to expand our cooperation," said Chumak.
Topics of the meeting
During the meeting, the parties discussed the consequences of Russian attacks on the infrastructure of the Group's enterprises - underground gas storage facilities, production facilities, thermal power facilities, etc. Naftogaz notes that there were 8 such attacks in just 3 months of 2025.
As a result of the shelling, part of the gas production was lost, so the priority is to restore the damaged facilities and resume production before the start of the next heating season.
At the same time, Naftogaz continues to import gas to compensate for losses and build up sufficient reserves - since the beginning of the year, it has imported about 800 mcm of gas. Work with the Government and international partners is ongoing to find opportunities to finance the necessary volumes of gas for the next winter.
The Head of the Naftogaz Group emphasized that the assistance provided by Japan is not only technical solutions but also a manifestation of unity and support in the struggle for the future of our country.
