Ukrgazvydobuvannya (UGV) took part in the annual conference of the American Association of Oil and Gas Geologists AAPG International Conference and Exhibition (ICE). The company announced this on its Facebook page.

The annual conference of the American Association of Oil and Gas Geologists, which took place in November in Madrid (Spain), gathered about a thousand specialists - representatives of international service and oil and gas companies, says the message of Ukrgazvydobuvannya.

During the conference, Serhiy Levonyuk, head of the regional geological research department of UkrNDigaz, and Svyatoslav Yuras, head of the petrophysics and rock physics department of the geophysical support department of Ukrgazvydobuvannya, presented the joint scientific work of the geological team of the Department of Unconventional Resources of Ukrgazvydobuvannya. The work is devoted to the conceptual geological and geochemical model of deposits of unconventional type in the Dnipro-Donetsk depression.

"In our work, we identified two promising parts of the DDZ for the exploration of unconventional reservoirs, the geographical distribution of which is controlled by the tectonics of the basin and the conditions of sedimentation. The Dnipro-Donets Basin has world-class oil and gas source rocks, both shales and carbonates, which may be unconventional reservoirs with high potential in the Visean deposits. The most promising part of the basin is the deep shelf, which is mostly located in optimal conditions for sedimentation of oil and gas parent rocks and a window of maturity," said Serhiy Levonyuk.

According to Sviatoslav Yuras, the main trends in the global geological exploration of oil and gas at the moment are high technology, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, as well as the constant involvement of more versatile methods of core, slurry, and fluid analysis.

"During the speeches, considerable attention was paid to the energy transition to renewable energy sources, energy security in the world, digitalization, seismic research, the use of machine learning and neural networks during the analysis and interpretation of large arrays of geological data," noted Svyatoslav Yuras.
