Natural gas reserves in Ukraine's underground gas storage facilities exceeded 9.5 bcm on July 1, Naftogaz Group CEO Oleksiy Chernyshov said in an interview with the We Are Ukraine TV channel.

ExPro calculations show this volume does not include 566 mcm of buffer gas. The total volume of gas in storage facilities, including buffer gas, exceeds 10 bcm.

According to Chernyshev, at the beginning of the 2024-2025 heating season, it is planned to accumulate at least 13 bcm of natural gas in storage facilities. This gas should be enough for the heating season. Chernyshov also added that gas injection into the storage facilities is going according to plan.

According to ExPro estimates, more than 710 mcm of natural gas were injected into Ukrainian UGS facilities in June, which is 17% (150 mcm) less than in June last year. In particular, almost 700 mcm of Ukrainian gas were injected into the storage facilities last month. Since the beginning of this year's injection season (March 31), about 1.88 bcm of natural gas have been injected into Ukrainian UGS facilities.

The Head of Naftogaz reminded that last winter was the first time in history that Ukraine had to rely on its own gas.

"This is a very outstanding moment for our lives, for our security, for our country. We also plan to get through this winter using Ukrainian gas, so we are constantly increasing production and focusing on this. We have such opportunities despite the additional volumes associated with electricity generation," commented Chernyshov.
