The Italian LPG vehicle fleet has almost doubled over the past 15 years, said Filippo De Cecco, technical manager of Assogasliquidi, at the European Liquid Gas Congress 2024 held in Lyon (France) on 19-20 June.

According to De Cecco, Italy is experiencing steady growth in the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) segment. However, retrofit trends have been on decline for two decades, he said.
According to the World Liquefied Gas Association (WLGA), the total number of LPG-vehicles in Italy increased from 2.847 million in 2021 to 2.901 million in 2022.
The number of petrol stations offering autogas in Italy also continues to grow. In 2022, it increased by 50 to 4.5 thousand.
Meanwhile, LPG consumption in the transportation sector in 2022 increased by 130 thousand tonnes to 1.535 million tonnes. Italy remains the second largest autogas market in the European Union after Poland.
