Alkagesta has completed the first stage of Clean Caspian, which is developing reagents for oil spill containment and emulsion separation, and has also received the EcoVadis Committed Badge. The company’s press service reported this.

Oil Spill Response

Clean Caspian, an environmental investment startup established with the support of Alkagesta, has completed the first stage of developing technologies for oil spill response in enclosed marine ecosystems.

As part of the first stage, the team developed two technologies for responding to oil spills:

  • Oil-Collecting Reagent-1 — a reagent for rapidly containing thin oil films on the water surface;

  • Flocculant–Coagulant-1 — a flocculant-coagulant for destabilizing oil-water emulsions and improving the efficiency of their separation.

Based on laboratory testing, the team identified the most promising chemical formulations for both products. Oil-Collecting Reagent-1 demonstrated effectiveness in containing thin oil layers, while Flocculant–Coagulant-1 proved effective in destabilizing oil-water emulsions.

Following the completion of the first stage, Clean Caspian will focus on further optimizing both formulations, conducting additional tests under various environmental conditions, and continuing the patenting process.

EcoVadis Recognition

In addition, Alkagesta has received the EcoVadis Committed Badge, recognizing its commitment to responsible and sustainable business practices in global trading operations.

EcoVadis is one of the leading providers of corporate sustainability ratings. The assessment covers four areas: environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement.

The EcoVadis assessment is based on documentary evidence and involves an analysis of companies’ policies, reporting, and level of transparency in line with internationally recognized sustainability standards. Receiving the Committed Badge reflects Alkagesta’s performance against these criteria and provides a basis for further improving the company’s practices.

The recognition complements Alkagesta’s ESG initiatives, including ISCC and CORSIA certification for trading in sustainable aviation fuel, access to EU ETS allowances, as well as investments in environmental research projects, including Clean Caspian, a startup developing technologies for oil spill response.
