Ukraine plans to accumulate at least 14 bcm of natural gas in underground gas storage facilities by the beginning of the next heating season of 2023-2024. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal at the meeting of the Anti-Crisis Energy Headquarters on May 22, 2023.

"We are already preparing for the heating season. Our strategic goal is to minimize gas imports into Ukraine by increasing our own gas production. The development of domestic gas exchange trading is also an integral part of maintaining the investment attractiveness of this area," the head of the Government noted.

Oleksiy Chernyshov, chairman of the board of Naftogaz of Ukraine, also took part in the headquarters meeting and noted that the key task until next winter is to create the necessary gas reserves.

According to ExPro calculations, almost 9.7 bcm of natural gas are currently stored in underground storage. One may remind, on April 14, Ukraine officially ended the heating season.
