Ukrgazvydobuvannya JSC (UGV), which is part of the Naftogaz Group, launched a new exploratory well with a depth of 5,800 m, the Naftogaz press service reports. Currently, the daily output of the well is 580 tcm of natural gas per day.

"This is one of the most powerful wells launched by UGV in recent years. Moreover, it opened the prospects of a previously unexplored block in one of the deposits in the east of the country. The prospective gas resources of this block are estimated at more than 6 bcm. Currently, preparations for drilling two more new wells are underway in this block," said the head of Naftogaz Oleksiy Chernyshov.

According to the company, the field has significant prospects and, at the same time, a complex geological structure, which is greatly complicated by deep faults and has a block character. The discovered gas deposits are in the conditions of a high-temperature section with abnormally high reservoir pressures.

Naftogaz notes that due to a lack of technology, it was previously impossible to develop promising deposits in this field at significant depths.

"The well has a complex slanted construction. Its drilling and exploration were a difficult challenge for the team of geologists, drillers, and geophysicists, which they successfully overcame. Next, we will continue to work on revealing the potential of this block," said the acting general director of UGV Oleg Tolmachev.

Drilling of the well was carried out by the drilling crew of the Shebelinsky branch of drilling works of the Ukrburgaz drilling department with the involvement of specialists from the specialized emergency and rescue service LIKVO. Geophysical research was carried out by specialists of State Enterprise Ukrgazpromgeofizyka and Weatherford Ukraine LLC.
