Naftogaz of Ukraine NJSC managed to cover the need for natural gas for the current heating season. This was announced by Naftogaz chairman Oleksiy Chernyshov in an interview with NV.
According to him, by the beginning of October, it was possible to accumulate 14.5 bcm of natural gas in underground storages, which was enough for work under usual scenarios. However, because of constant shelling by the Russians, there was a need for an additional resource. "The Ministry of Energy reported that additional cubic meters of gas are needed. Due to the warm weather, the real need turned out to be less than the forecast and we have already covered it," Chernyshov said.
To cover additional needs, Naftogaz imported natural gas. "President Volodymyr Zelenskyi personally addressed the leaders of the partner countries. In the end, we found both gas and money for it," Chernyshov said.
For example, Naftogaz purchased more than 400 mcm of gas from the Norwegian company Equinor and almost 130 mcm of gas from partners from Germany. Chernyshov also noted the consistent assistance of the G7 countries and the government of Norway in financing the necessary volumes of gas.
