Global LPG consumption in the transportation sector has increased by 40% over the past decade, said Cinch Munson, business development director of the World Liquid Gas (WLGA) during the European Liquid Gas Congress 2024, which took place in Lyon (France) on 19-20 June.

According to Munson, demand for autogas has increased by 40% in the past 10 years. In 2022, global consumption of LPG as a motor fuel reached 25.45 million tonnes, while the total LPG market was 206.5 million tonnes (excluding the petrochemical market).

As of the beginning of 2023, the share of autogas was just over 12% of total LPG consumption, while domestic gas accounted for almost 75% of the total demand for the product, Munson said. He added that there are currently 28 million autogas-consuming vehicles registered worldwide.
